could bbq sauce be used instead of ketscup ?

  2. Sue says:

Taste was fine made as freezer meal. But sauce wa very watery. What did I do wrong?

  3. Momma Cyd says:

The sauce was watery after you cooked them in the Instant Pot? Because you do have to add in that little bit of extra water. The sauce isn't super thick.

  4. Andrea says:

Could I make this recipe with a different kind of meat like chicken or normal bone-in ribs? My husband dislikes the country style ribs and they are also not very easy to find here in Canada

  5. Momma Cyd says:

You can easily swap out the ribs for another kind. If cooking beef ribs, they take longer to cook than pork ribs.

  6. Jo Keniston says:

This recipe is amazing. I have made it four times now, it's so easy and sooooo good.

FAQs

How long do you cook country-style ribs in an instapot? ›

Pressure Cook

Set the metal trivet in the bottom of a 6 qt Instant Pot and pour a cup of water or beef broth in the bottom. Arrange the ribs and garlic on the trivet. Pressure cook on high pressure for 40 minutes. Natural release (do nothing) for 15 minutes then quick release the remaining pressure.

Why are my ribs tough in Instant Pot? ›

This means that they're not cooked long enough. Be sure to cook the ribs for the full 30 minutes on high, and let the pressure release for 15 minutes before removing the lid. If you did this and the ribs are still tough, I recommend cooking them for an additional 5 minutes on high in the Instant Pot.

What is the difference between pork ribs and country-style ribs? ›

We'll take a closer look at each of them and what makes them different (and how to cook them) here. Country ribs aren't true ribs, but are more like "mini pork chops", cut from the shoulder. They have a bone in and appear like a rib chop, though they aren't technically.

How much liquid do you put in the ribs in an Instant Pot? ›

Blend the spices thoroughly and then rub the mixture all over the ribs. Place a trivet in the Instant Pot and add the 1 cup of stock or water and the apple cider vinegar. Stand the ribs on end in the pot, coiling them to fit.

Is it better to slow cook or pressure cook ribs? ›

Pork ribs take closer to four hours in a slow cooker. Now that it's a little hot to have an oven on all day, I prefer cooking ribs in a multicooker, aka an Instant Pot, and then finishing them under a broiler for three to four minutes to crisp up the edges of the meat.

Why are my country style pork ribs tough? ›

If your ribs are chewy, you either forgot to remove the membrane from the back of the ribs or you didn't cook them long enough. If your ribs are dry, you likely cooked them too hot and fast.

Can you overcook ribs in a pressure cooker? ›

Yes, ribs can be overcooked in the Instant Pot. That's why it's important to follow the recommended cook times in this Instant Pot ribs recipe and perform a natural release at the end.

Do ribs get more tender the more you cook them? ›

Your goal is to get good color and caramelization on the outside of the ribs, but also to cook them long enough that the tough collagen breaks down and the meat becomes tender. Generally, the ribs will be browned before the meat is done, which is where the balancing act comes in.

Do you cook ribs longer to make them tender? ›

When using a slower method like the grill, smoker, or oven, you'll need about 3-5 hours. Slower methods can be ready in as little as 30 minutes - however, keep in mind that the longer you cook your pork back ribs the more tender and succulent they'll be.

What are country-style ribs good for? ›

Just like spare ribs, baby back ribs, and the like, they are phenomenal in a slow cooker on low heat for anywhere between a few hours or an entire day. They are also great with a great dry rub but are phenomenal when grilled or slow-cooked in a Crock-Pot or Dutch oven with a great marinade or BBQ sauce.

What is the best temperature to cook country-style ribs? ›

Preheat the oven to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C). Place ribs in a single layer in a shallow baking pan or roaster; salt if desired. Spread garlic on ribs, then arrange lemon slices on top. Bake in the preheated oven until tender, about 2 hours.

How do you tenderize boneless country-style ribs? ›

What's the best way to tenderize country-style ribs? Cooking country-style ribs low and slow is essential for tenderness. You have to allow plenty of time for the connective tissue to break down. It isn't a quick process, but the resulting fall-apart tender meat is worth every minute you have to wait!

What liquid to add to ribs? ›

You may, if desired, spritz or mop your ribs while smoking with a liquid of your choice. Apple juice or cider, butter, Dr. Pepper, apple cider vinegar, beer… there are plenty of options.

What do you spritz ribs with when cooking? ›

With that in mind, what I tend to use and find is the best spritz for smoking is apple cider vinegar but water will work as well, or a 50/50 mix. Another great alternative is apple juice where the sugars in the juice also add another level of flavour to your bark.

How do you know when country style ribs are done? ›

The grill temperature should be 300 degrees set up for indirect heat. This allows the ribs to cook slowly allowing the meat to soften and tenderize. Leave them on the grill for 1 hour or until the grilled country style ribs reach an internal temperature of 200 degrees. Let them rest for 5-10 minutes and enjoy!

Can you overcook country ribs? ›

You would think that longer cooking times would simply mean more tender, succulent beef. Sadly, this is simply not the case. Cooking any kind of meat for too long will usually leave it dry, tough, and utterly unappealing. In all honesty, cooking BBQ ribs to perfection is something of an artform.

What is the best temperature to cook country style ribs? ›

Preheat the oven to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C). Place ribs in a single layer in a shallow baking pan or roaster; salt if desired. Spread garlic on ribs, then arrange lemon slices on top. Bake in the preheated oven until tender, about 2 hours.

How many minutes to cook ribs? ›

Larger, fattier ribs need to be cooked longer than baby backs. Shoot for around 2 hours at 350 degrees if the ribs are uncovered, as in our Barbecued Pork Ribs. If wrapped in foil, the ribs can go for up to 3 hours at 300°F degrees, or crank the oven up to 400 degrees for a briefer baking time—1.5 to 2 hours.
