The Category Specialist provides world-class category insights, analytics and thought leadership to our customers. The Category Specialist will grow customer categories by using category management principles and utilizing customer/marketplace data to develop business-building recommendations.
To be successful in this role, you are a strategic thinker, skilled storyteller, and expert analyst who excels at collecting and translating consumer insights into strategic recommendations. The Category Specialist will collaborate with the sales team to create successful business plans to grow category, sales, volume and profitability. In addition, the Category Specialist will play a role in understanding retailer needs and category requirements to drive category growth initiatives and will provide counsel and thought leadership to retailers with strategies and tactics to help improve performance.
This is a home office based position that can be located in any of the following states: AR, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, IN, MI, MN, NC, NE, NV, NJ, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, WA, WI
The salary range for this position is: $80,348 - $136,591/year
Responsibilities:
Nurture consultative relationship with customer driven by category insights; be viewed by customer as the leader in insights, analytics, and guidance in Del Monte’s largest categories
Analyze, interpret, and share different industry data including POS, Shopper Card, Panel, and research data
Ability to create sales and new item scorecards and fulfill other ad hoc data requests
Work with cross functional teams to create content including but not limited to category reviews, JBP and QBR’s
Build strategies and plans that benefit the customer’s category performance and objectives
Proactively identify insights from consumer and/or shopper behavior and competitive insights and translate them into implications that grow sales; broadly share with others
Provide customer with actionable, fact-based category recommendations for assortment, shelving, pricing, and promotion
Participate in highly engaged cross-functional relationships to maximize the final deliverables and results
Work efficiently to respond to requests for information and presentation support to drive growth in an extremely dynamic environment
Field requests by executive leadership for information and presentation support to drive sales or explore new categories and trends
Provide expertise regarding execution of shelving and space standards in all our categories
Take ownership of personal development, proactively seeking feedback, coaching, mentoring, and training to continually improve skills and competencies
Provide support for industry and executive meetings i.e., FMI, Expo West, etc.
Qualifications:
BA/BS degree required; MBA preferred
3 - 5 years relevant business experience in CPG industry with supplier, retailer or broker
Proven record of success in retail grocery industry with consumer-packaged goods or broker experience
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the talent and maturity to influence customer actions
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; strong storytelling and data visualization capabilities
Strong proficiency in Retailer POS, Syndicated and Panel data, Shopper Card data (i.e., Stratum, EYC, etc.), IRI/Nielsen
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint is a must
